NaNoWriMo 2007

I first learned about NaNoWriMo, or the National Novel Writing Month, through a tweet (that is, a Twitter message). I checked it out and immediately fell in love with the idea of trying to bang out a novel (or the start of one) in 30 days. But I really worried I wouldn't have the time. And the truth is, I don't. But I decided to try it anyway.

And then I forgot to sign up. Luckily, NaNoWriMo lets you start late. So I started on the 3rd. But I didn't actually start writing until the 4th. And then I started over today on the 7th. So now, I have to write 2100 words per day to cross the finish line. That's not easy. Of course, if you know me, you know I always make thing harder than they need to be.

My novel is an adventure/low fantasy young adult sort of thing. I picture it as a cross between Huckleberry Finn and The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe (it's no coincidence my protagonist is named Jack). Of course, who knows if it will end as I now picture it. Of course, who knows if I'll even finish!

I'm going to post the chapters here as I finish them. Please bear in mind that I'm not editing. At all. Really. No spell check, no re-writing, not even any re-reading. The idea is to get the story out of the fire hose, and that is what I'm going to try to do. It's a different approach for me, but then again I've never gotten past the first chapter in any of my previous writing attempts.

Oh, and I'm starting with the second chapter. First chapters are hard to write, so I thought I'd to it later. If you are confused, sorry. I'll get around to the first chapter when I hit my first wall.
